Just as one chapter closes – another chapter begins. So I find it so appropriate that my last client blog would be of two wonderfully fun and loving people on their brink of bringing a new baby into this world. Kelly and Terry were just awesome to work with. The more we talked during the session – the more I was so impressed with their life and accomplishments. Both hold National Weightlifting Championships – met at a gym – and Kelly teaches piano and writes songs. I get to work with a lot of great people and it’s one reason I have loved doing what I do – but when you run into a couple like Kelly and Terry and see how much their love for each other is so obvious – well, that is a bonus for me. Best of luck to you both!

The past few years I have always photographed the Rosser’s in their beautiful home for their Christmas portraits. This year we wanted something different so we brought it into the studio. I knew how beautiful and elegant they had always dressed for their portraits so I envisioned something a bit more classical and timeless this time. They are so much fun to work with and had some great ideas for me to play off of. Just a little sneak peek from their session.

Payton totally rocked her senior session! I was a bit nervous when she told me these were her first ever professional portraits because that meant I really, really wanted to do a great job for her. But once she got on the other side of the camera she was a natural. Her favorite color is red, she loves Michael Jackson and going to the Orpheum with her mom, she brought her puppy Haley who we bribed to the set with a few smarties, and she is an incredibly beautiful and smart young woman heading off to UT Martin in the fall. Thanks to her mom Rose for bringing the roses and helping out. I know just how you feel with your youngest getting ready to leave home and I hope that these images of Payton will be very special to you.

I can’t believe that Imaging USA is coming to a close in Nashville and I’ll be headed back to Memphis tomorrow. These past 5 days have been totally action packed and I’ll admit I’m totally exhausted from early mornings and late nights but I’ve spent the majority of my waking moments immersed in anything and everything photography related and it has been awesome!
I have met some incredible photographers from around the world – shout out to my girl Alessandra from Brazil - and some new friends from Memphis that I had to go all the way to Nashville to meet
I got a chance to hear my heroes of photography speak and demonstrate their techniques and I have tons of great new ideas to bring back and I am excited about such a great start to the new season. Overwhelmed ….. but excited.
The trade show was an event in itself and as much as I tried to track down the elusive new Canon G11 point shoot for myself – seemed like everyone else beat me to it. But I did find some great new stuff for the studio and I can’t wait for the next session where I can show them off. Heads up – I’m looking for a really cute baby girl who can sit up so send me an email if you are interested in a free session and some free prints in exchange for letting me play camera with my new toys.
I took some great shots at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel while I was here but after sitting in the quiet of my room going through all of the information I collected at the expo I knew something like this would better show my information overload

Looking forward to my first session of 2010 with senior Peyton Rose when I return to Memphis!
I always like to take a moment at the beginning of every year and sort of reflect on my past year. It’s my memories of this past year through your family portraits – sounds a little strange I guess but a big part of my life goes into creating a hard copy memory of a time in your life – when your children are only 2 weeks old, or when they are getting married or graduating high school or just being really, really cute. As I look back on some of my favorite images from 2009 it brings a smile to my face – some images were captured against great odds – like the two-year olds who never stay in one place.
I did one wedding this year – it was for a 70 year old couple and I loved that idea so much it was the only reason I agreed to do another wedding.
I brought a live bunny into the studio for my first ever Bunny Promotion – that was fun! That memory makes me laugh because Bun Bun kept hopping off the set to chew on my backdrop paper. Later I learned that Bun Bun had gotten sick and passed away – the owner truly treasured all those photos I gladly gave her.
I did more shoots downtown – loved it and hope to do more. I also did more in-home location sessions this year – I love the challenge of walking in and looking for areas of the house to use, coming up with on the spot ideas to try, and how each session looks different from the next.
And finally – a photographers dream – to have great family photos of my own family and with the help of everyone who was handed the camera I have some of my new favorite shots of my family.
As Frank would sing “Thanks For the Memories”!
Enjoy!
